Nestled among the rolling hills and majestic peaks of Canterbury, Hanmer Springs set the perfect stage for a backyard wedding that felt like a true escape into nature. This charming alpine village, known for its thermal pools and stunning mountain views, played host to an intimate celebration that blended rustic charm with effortless elegance.

A First Look in the Mountains

Before the guests arrived, the bride and groom shared a quiet moment alone, high in the hills overlooking the valley with their bridal party. The misty mountains behind them created the perfect moody backdrop.

We won’t mention getting eaten by sandflies!!

After that we headed back down from the mountains, and into the forest for a couple of champagne pops and a little dance in the road…

The Ceremony: Backyard Bliss

The ceremony took place in Spencer’s family backyard, with the bride and her bridesmaids arriving in classic cars.

Vows were exchanged with the mountains still standing tall in the distance.

The Reception: A Clear Marquee Under the Stars

As the sun dipped behind the ranges, guests made their way to the reception area—a clear marquee set up in the backyard. With an entrance to shots, we went straight into the shoe game, one of the best versions I’ve seen.

Finally after dinner Anna and Spencer surprised all their guests with an epic entracnce into their cake cutting and first dance on the back of a dirt bike!!

A Celebration to Remember

This Hanmer Springs wedding wasn’t about extravagance—it was about place, this wasn’t just a wedding—it was a moment in time, perfectly placed in one of New Zealand’s most beautiful corners.
